Primarily Operated by African American People, the word "juke" is thought to be deriven from the Gullah word ( a creole language ) Joog meaning disorderly or rowdy. The clubs would cater mainly cater to (african american share-croppers plantation workers) arising after the emancipation. A hards week of work, required a nice place to come to, socialize and just have fun, and the Juke Joint played this role.
